In her childhood, Iva went to the same school Garou was in, she was part of another class and seemed to be a joyous and social little girl, but in the other way, she was often changing who she was for the sake of belonging to the group. One day, during a lunch break she goes to a secluded part of the playground since her friends were ignoring her for saying something wrong, in this place she meets a little boy from another classroom, for the first time she sees Garou, who was focused on the catalogue of bugs he had. The catalogue and the boy’s loneliness caught her attention, especially because it was one of the catalogues she eyed from the store crossing the street from their school, at this, Iva impulsively walks towards the boy and stood behind him and says hi a little bit too loud, which surprises Garou, who stays quiet and awkwardly says hello back to her. Iva told him about how much she had always loved ants and if his book had information about them, that she would love to know what she should put on the tiny houses she did for them whenever she captured some, Garou seemed to be intrigued in her words but quickly changed opinions when she heard that she captured ants instead of letting them go their way with their crumbs, he mentioned to her that would be harmful for them and that she shouldn’t do that, Iva seemed surprised and concerned, and asked what should she do for them instead, the chat they had kept going and resulted in a long and peaceful conversation about an interest they both had, like little and new friends with big dreams and lots of passion.
They both grew fond to each other and, one day, Garou told Iva how ladybugs were a bug that didn’t bite after she said how sometimes they scared her a lot due to venom and bites, he told her for the first time he thought of her as a ladybug, a red, dotted and lucky bug, explaining how they are a symbol of luck and that she was his luck just like ladybugs to farmers, this moved Iva a lot and while staring at him jumped closer and raised her hand to ask for a promise, she asked him to promise she would always be his ladybug, which surprised him and made him get nervous, but ended up promising it to her by intertwining their little fingers. Later, with the past of the days and a strong friendship, Garou found Iva getting laughed at while the other kids, one of them being tacchan, held her notebook in front of her and mocked the content of her small love stories and drawings her and Garou had drawn before, Garou yelled at them and stood for her, he told her she needed to be strong and stand for herself if she wanted them to let go of her and stop bothering her, and that it was unfair for her to have to hide how she truly is just to fit in, this shocked Iva but changed her perception of things, when the children pushed garou and threw him to the floor she snapped out and yelled at them to leave them alone, she started to scream for the teacher between loud tears, scaring the kids away because they knew they would most likely believe Garou now that she was with him. After they ran away, she knelt in front of garou and tried to patch the wounds they made when they pushed him away, he seemed upset and it made her scared, he reassured her but made clear he wished she stood for herself because of how unfair it was to not be what she truly is, then Iva finished placing band-aids and kissed the spot to heal him faster like her mom did to her, this made him nervous and looked away.
One day, Iva’s education seemed to become more expensive than what her parents could afford, additionally, the suspicions they had over their daughter getting somewhat bullied due to the teachers attention to her interaction with other girls in her group, with those topics on their plate, they decided to get her into a new school far from her birth city since they also needed to move, this decision at first devastated a young Iva, since for the first time, in her own words, got something to lose in that place; when the time of telling Garou came, Iva tried to avoid looking at his eyes but when she did and saw his yellow and hopeful eyes and his genuine smile, she started to cry and concerned him in response, she apologized to him and when he asked what happened, she told him the news about having to move and the new school she had to go, she hugged him and told him how afraid she was to loose her only friend, garou hugged her back and told her to not be silly and that she wouldn’t loose him even if she wanted to, Iva after hearing that pulled away from their hug and raised her little finger and between sobs told him if he promised to never forget her, that they must never forget about each other and always be each other best friends, Garou stared at her in silence and didn’t take long in promise it to her by intertwining their fingers. The next week Iva had to go to her new house and with it say “see you later” to her dear friend, after say goodbye to garou, he ran to her and gifted her a pair of ladybug earrings, she concerned told him she didn’t prepare anything for him, but when he saw her in the eyes to say not to worry with a bit of a shy and grumpy face she smiled and kissed Garou’s cheek, shocking him, they were interrupted by her parents calling her and with it they sadly waved their last goodbye.
After almost a year, she comes back to the city she and Garou lived in the past and with it, after not seeing Garou for all that time, she tried to find him by visiting their previous school, unfortunately she went just for her to realize that Garou no longer studied in that place, she asked to multiple people about his state but most of them limited themselves a lot or gave her a bad look, as if she was talking about some kind of monster that harmed all of the people in the building, this made her noticeably sad and almost stopped to ask for him, at some point she went to the teacher’s room and expressed her worry towards him by asking if he was okay and if they knew where he was now, yet all she got was how he just started to be problematic and hurt other kids along with a lecture about how she shouldn’t be friends or close to people like him, this made her noticeably angry, which resulted in her raising her voice for the first time to adults and told them that she didn’t believed them one bit, especially if that “selfish kid Tacchan” was involved, after yelling at them she ran away between a few tears out of frustration and sadness towards the view people had of Garou. Later, Iva tried to distract herself by trying to find him in places they both shared a lot and rested in the hidden spot they both interacted with the most in, she thought about how she could find him but got interrupted by a ladybug over her cheek, giving her an idea. After her visit to their old school, Iva tried to use her mother’s help to contact his parents, but it was useless due to his mother’s behavior, who refused to spit a word of how he was and if Iva could see him in a very rude manner with the excuse that “that brat” was better away from problems.
Since Iva didn’t find Garou, she ended up having a start of her adolescence saddened due to the loss of the friend she once had but still feeling unable to break their promise, she started to go to a known school in the town and prepared herself for her future, even if she was young, her parents would often talk about the college she could aspire to be and the degree, slowly convincing herself that’s the future she should choose. In her middle school years, she found the small group of “friends” she used to go with in elementary before meeting Garou and expecting of them to be new people and aware of their actions, she befriended them and formed a small group that was comfortable enough, even if she felt she didn’t fully matched their humor, making her feel off half the time she was with them. Iva’s caring side started to take more shape thanks to said friend group, since they would often talk badly about others with lame excuses, which concerned Iva for other people’s feelings and try to be okay with them and know their part of the story. Her desire to be kind with others made her trusted by girls in her class and one or two boys she talked to once in a while, between them there was a young guy called Hybris. Her friendship with him started to take shape and later on it, the nice behavior Hybris took started to made her feel slightly off but thought it could be just a strong friendship, perhaps similar to the one in the past even though she admits there has never been a single person that made her feel as okay as Garou did; Hybris’s mom, one of the teachers would often make comments about how close they both were to the point that other teachers that were her friends started to see it that way, making Iva uncomfortable because Hybris seemed to get those comments to his head, limiting himself to laugh instead of trying to stop them out.
One day, Iva and him were having a nice chat and she mentioned Garou to him, telling him how special he was in the past and how she loved him, quickly telling him that as friends, the mention of this made Hybris turn uncomfortable and visibly upset over it even though he tried to hide it, which lead to Iva changing topics. Later that week, Iva came to class just for her to find her apparent friend refusing to talk to her and justifying that he was protecting her from the sudden slut and easy girl allegations she was starting to have due to how friendly she was with him while liking someone else, what he said stressed her out and ended up on her to cry over how the teachers and everyone looked at her whenever she was with a guy, rather if it was just a chat or laughs, which made her start to build even more uncomfortable and reject every single form of closeness and physical contact with the men surrounding her on her fear to be seen as something close to a slut and just because she no longer trusted enough anyone for her to share things about her past, she would still be friendly and care for others, but she stopped feeling comfortable completely with being close to people to certain extent. She ended up changing schools due to the selfish behavior teachers started to show, which led her to find kinder people that cared for her well being just like she did for them.
During her late seventeens, she got accepted into the university she wanted to study law on, filling her with joy and feeling pride for herself for once after a long time, making her feel like her life began to take shape. Since she always lived far from the said university, located in S-City, her parents felt fearful due to her lack of experience from real life situations, since she is their only daughter, they always overprotected her after a few incidents with small and almost inoffensive monsters not letting her fully experiment what life truly was outside the same walls and streets she have lived on, this was a main problem for her to deal since the first answer from them was a solid no, almost not letting her do more to justify why they should let her go. Iva had to remind her father of the future he envisioned for her to have and build and how it would not be possible if she didn’t try, that it was a huge opportunity she felt she needed to be part of to succeed this one time, they have a nice and melancholic chat where he confesses that he would grief his entire life if he ever lost her by a monster attack and knowing he was not there to protect her from it, she felt moved and shows her affection by resting her head on his shoulder and finally let him feel the concern he felt, which helped him to accept with the small condition to respond to him and her mother calls everyday to let them know she was alright, she accepted and mentioned she could start to learn self defense to be sure she had how to be safe if needed, and that she would do her best to avoid monster attacks. Later, after she told her mother she hardly agreed only because they forbidden her from quitting the dojo she would be at to learn martial arts, mentioning she would be tracked by people her father knows to keep up with said decisions.
Due to the location, Iva had the only option to travel across cities to get to her university, traveling from city B to city S, the only option she had was to use an old bus stop that barely had any visitors and was considered to be one of the removed stops to be turned into a convenience store for the small town near from it, she would everyday wake up to go to the stop and do a long journey to the main town in the city and take the train, this routine eventually dried her out, along with the feeling of unease that invaded her whenever she had to do her homework, not quite sure if law was the degree that felt right for her at all, this became one of the main stresses in her life, often drowning in the belief she build where there was nothing in her outsides the goal of becoming a good lawyer to do a change in the world and help people out, the idea of her goal being just a silly fantasy also taunted and weighted her way. There was an intense fear of stepping back and ruining the plans her father first made and with that the chance of being someone helpful, useful.
Later, in one of the routinary days and one month after Garou went into havoc and in consequence got expelled from Bang’s dojo and before Iva’s first apartment got destroyed, she meets with him again on a rainy day at the bus stop she took every day for going to college, she had an umbrella while garou had nothing but the roof of the stop to cover his soaked self from the rain, this caught Iva’s attention since the bus stop has stopped being used for a while now, which made her the only person who used it every day. At first, she didn’t recognize the person at her right but the gaze he had brought her memories of the little friend she used to have back in her childhood, along with that promise that she describes as “silly”, yet her expression shows her true thoughts over how important that promise and that friendship was for her, the resemblance she sees on the person next to her leads her to offer him her own umbrella, Garou was weirded out at the beginning and questioned her for her action due to him being a stranger, she insisted in giving it to him and showing genuine concern towards how rainy it was and justified herself by mentioning the extra umbrella she had on her backpack and the fact that she would be under roof for hours in the bus, garou kept rejecting it because she couldn’t be sure he would give it back, she nonchalantly mentions that he would be in the wrong in that case, saying how she had to come back the next day and the day after it, stating that if he wanted to give it back, he could just leave it there since nobody came to the stop, he eventually accepts the umbrella and takes it, she glanced at him and the feeling of how oddly familiar he was warmed her heart a bit, she shyly asks him if she could make him a question and after he half agrees she asks him what his name is, this surprises Garou, but eventually responds, she is left pale and shocked for a few seconds the moment he tells her his name, he frowns and shyly says that it was rude to not tell her name back, he felt afraid for some reason that not even him understood and Iva slowly started to come back when she heard the bus parking, she looked at him and responded with her name, leaving Garou weirded out with the confession, he realizes as well that they both finally met again and as she gets inside of the bus, he doesn’t say anything and let her go, standing in the stop confused and a bit frustrated by the new encounter with his old friend. The next day, Iva goes back to the stop, expecting to see him again with the excuse he had to bring her umbrella back, but the moment she peaks at a glance to the inside of the stop, she realizes the umbrella was left in the corner of the place, making her feel a wave of disappointment, perhaps sadness. Iva sat after she grabbed the umbrella and frowned, frustrated by how he seemed to not care at all, even though that frustration didn’t last for long after the next day, when she was back to the stop once again, he was sitting with the cover of the umbrella, with an excuse of him forgetting to give it back, they both exchange a silence but the moment she takes it she tells him that she thought she would never see him once more, he grunts but shakes his head, she responds telling him how glad she was and how surprised she felt to see him so changed, though it was a good surprise. After that, both of them started to meet at the bus stop, then at small places like the park near, her apartment or even the forest near the town, finding a small quiet place for both of them just like they had one when they were little, finding their friendship once more.
Iva and Garou spent time hanging out together to reconnect after a long time and despite Garou’s refusal to start a friendship he eventually started to grow fond of her once again, even if he didn’t admit it at all, his actions and reactions talked for himself. In one of their meetings, on Iva’s apartment on city B, they were chatting about mundane things like how their favorite ice cream place moved to another place in the town and as more the conversation went going, they eventually got to what Iva wanted in life after Garou asked her how her studies were going, Iva confessed to him, opening herself a tiny bit in how she never saw herself as anything other than what her parents, her father specially, wanted for her, so looking further was a bit difficult and scary, she confessed it made her feel like no one and a coward for doing just what she was supposed to do instead of actually trying to realize and learn who she was outsides the already imposed path she felt she had to accomplish, Garou reacts bitterly but also his affection shows when he tells her to do something about it then, if she wants to make the change then she should stop putting up excuses and stand up and be strong, that if she wants to help people she had to first take risks instead of waiting for something to hopefully happen in the journey she was imposed, he called it boring and restricting for what he, in his opinion, she had to offer to others and most importantly herself, garou then states that she needs to start looking more for what she wants and to let go of her parents a bit, that they wont live her life for her so she had to do whatever she felt sometimes. This shocked and moved Iva significantly, which led her to smile as she realized how much she had depended on her parents and their protection and how she would never build a life she would be happy with if she didn’t start to look for some independence.
A few days after that, Iva was getting out of the university and thinking about his words, that’s when a monster decided to appear to torment the place, it seemed to be weak but people around were paralyzed to do something about it, the monster saw her and a little girl next to her with her mom, he threw himself to attack the mother with her child since they were the weaker in that moment, in a reflex Iva grabs her backpack and uses it to hit the monster’s head, and without thinking about it she pushed the monster to a considerable distance and started to kick with all her strength till the monster was far from the girl and her mom, the adrenaline she felt made her keep going, throwing her books to the monster one after one, finally achieving to beat it after hitting the head with one of her heaviest books. A few days after that, she was left with the girl and her mom that seemed relieved, nobody but her saw her, but when the mom held her hand to say thank you, in her heart bloomed the feeling of her towards the ones that were defenseless, and with it she took a decision. In a look for independence and after experimenting for once a feeling of doing something she wanted she decides to visit the hero association to see if she was able to become a hero. She passes the exam, and she gets to have a C-Class Rank, this didn’t make her sad or angry, it was the opposite, she felt genuinely happy to finally be part of something new that she chose. Iva finally managed to feel like she was capable of doing more. Later she decided to go to the past Garou’s hideout to see if he was there and when he saw her he smirked, he was about to say something when she interrupted him with a hug and happy giggles, he was weirded out but shyly hugged her back, shortly, since he made her pull away after that, she excitedly told him she was ranked as a hero now, that she was able to finally do something she wanted as Garou showed shock and some kind of discomfort that Iva noticed and asked about it, he said it was nothing and that good for her, not the hero association had an annoying ladybug with them, iva didn’t react angry at the comment, she was too happy to care if it was good or bad intentioned. She kept telling him about the experience and how a woman, a hero called Vanessa was leading her on her way, expressing her admiration due to how said woman was a magical girl.
Later that month, Iva and Garou would have a chat on their secret spot, laying down in the grass, talking about simple and mundane things they have done that day and week, Garou wouldn’t shut up about how he was getting stronger, and Iva wouldn’t stop giggling about how proud he looked, they shifted their conversation at Garou’s previous training and between laughs he was telling her about the time he asked to one of the newest bang disciple that he couldn’t spare with him because of the belts while being older than Garou itself, he then mentioned that it pissed him off when the new disciple told him he just got in because of his need to get girls, he grunted but then smirked, saying how lame that was, he clenched his fist and looked at Iva, she was paying attention to him and staring, she then nodded to express her attention to him, which made Garou’s heart flutter a bit, after mentioning the new disciple and after staring into Iva’s eyes, he remembers what happened after that interaction with said student and his expression slowly turns serious, he takes a breath and turns his body to look at the sky and asks her what she would do if he was a monster in that moment, she jokes around how she would beat him since she was a hero, but the seriousness in his face made her relax and genuinely respond, she pointed different spots, his hair, telling him about how his hair would be horns instead of that messy hair, or his fingers would be claws, and his mouth would have fangs as she touches his lips, they both stop, garou faintly blushes and she sighs and confesses that she would not be capable of beating him, not even try to hurt him, he was too special and that she instead would try to use that strength to bring him back because she wouldn’t be able to bear to see him being treated like the monsters she sees in the street, she wouldn’t be able to see him like the flesh of the monsters from the previous night on her way to the university, stablishing that final made her feel like her heart was shattering, but that it reassured her to know that it wasn’t like that since he was not a monster in the slightest, this made him grunt and look away from her.
After that Garou stopped appearing in the spots he used to be, almost as if he was avoiding her at it fullest, and he was achieving it, her thoughts were filled with how he could be in danger and no matter how hard she tried to think he was fine, her mind would convince her from the opposite, causing her have awful weeks praying for his wellbeing and try to find hope in their memories, thinking that if she found him twice, she could find him once more and know he was okay.
Introduction Saga
While she was going back from college, Iva got distracted by a small kitten on a tree and a girl that was calling him out, she was not doing her hero activities but she couldn’t let it pass, Iva achieved to take the kitty out of the tree and hand it to the girl, nearly falling but safely held onto the wood, then, an explosion happened near the place they were. She took the girl with herself and ran away from the spot they were located, quickly asking the girl if her mom or parents were near, the second she answered that she was not accompanied, she ran away towards the nearest shelter. The sight of a giant shocked Iva, but she didn’t stop running until the little girl was safe and so herself. A few hours later they indicated to them it was safe to go out, she left the girl with the hero association authorities to help her to locate her parents while she walked out of the shelter. She saw the destruction and after walking for a bit came across the ruins of her apartment, making her just yell at the sky out of frustration.
She was able to find a cheap apartment in City-Y.
Hero Association Saga
A few weeks later, Iva was in the lobby to do her reports of monster and criminal successes to the hero association and review the information she had collected about her work, then she sees someone she admires a lot and impulsively walks towards him to express her fanatism, said person is was Silver Fang, who kindly expressed a hi to her, she tells him about her admiration for his martial arts and he in response tells her she should visit his dojo. Sadly, they get interrupted by the lady who checked the reports, indicating it was time of reporting said successes, she expresses her gratitude for his time and walks away from him and the two young men next to him.
After the attack, she was part of the heroes who helped with the injured civilians on the nearest shelter.
Human Monster Saga
After Garou’s bloody introduction to the Hero Association, many wanted flyers were pasted around cities, along with news in newspapers as a warn for the potential threat he could become, this was asked by stitch, who also expressed his concern to some of the heroes that came for help. Iva that night crossed paths with Garou for the first time after he pushed himself away, though it was by his face on an announcement on the screen of one of the walls of the train she took to get back to her apartment, shocked, Iva takes a picture of it as she kneels and contemplates the image in front of her: garou and other criminals, the realization of how her friend had been hunting dojos and the fact that was what started with his disappearance from her life, caused a mixture of feelings in her heart, feelings such as anger and resentment along with a huge relief and love towards him and his well-being in a way, though she knew it wouldn’t last if he didn’t stop, which is the reason of why she felt determined to know what he was on. She walked towards her home instead of taking the train in an attempt to find him in the streets, even though she didn’t find him at all, she found more flyers with a bit more information about the crimes he was accused of which she collected to ask about him to the hero association.
Later that day, she walked to the hero association, passing through the spots they used to hang out on in case he by any chance came back just for her to again, find nothing. She entered the hero association and once again crossed paths with Silver Fang, Bang, who seemed too serious and less charismatic in comparison to the Bang she met in the past before the attack to City A, this made her feel off since she knew the reason behind and she knew the reason, which was exactly the same as her: Garou, with the exception that he was probably called to take responsibility of him. She asks to see stitch but she was denied from it since he was on a meeting, after this she sighs and tries to wait, she waited one hour and a half and after feeling she was losing time (and her lack of patience), she gets out of the building and decides to reach for herself on internet and by the things she knew about him.
Iva spent all day going through the city he could be in, trying to find her way to him, she went to ask some of the dojos she found on the internet that were attacked and challenged under the time Garou’s hunting, some of them gave him very vague information and others information that she considered important, such as his lack of use of the Stream Rock Smashing Fist which she deduced it was due to his tough past with his master, who he vaguely mentioned in their past late night calls, she felt like she was failing him whenever she walked on a random street and didn’t find him since in her opinion he was committing a big mistake with his life in his way to reach his goal, due to being distracted, she saw a man with his height and silver hair and rushed to stop him before really thinking about it, she grabbed him by the shoulder and called out Garou’s name just for her to shamefully ask for forgiveness at the realization it was not him in the slightest and it was just a random young man.
Later that night she decided to try to work as a hero and patrol to relieve stress and with the small objective of attracting him and seeing if she could be an attempt at his Hero Hunt, though she imagined he would not go for her at all. While patrolling she heard noise, rumbles of the concrete and dirt and screams of multiple men, she tried to ran to the place she heard the noise because she thought there was a monster attack but in her way she found Garou instead, she felt a rush of relief, worry and confusion when she saw him wounded and dirty with blood that was probably not fully his. She tried to get closer but he seemed too defensive for him to properly recognize him, that’s when she took her helmet off and held it near her chest, she interlocked gazes with him and his gaze softened a bit at the sight of her, though he quickly composed and asked her what the hell she was doing in a place like that at that hour, and if she couldn’t sleep in a mocking tone as a way to pretend to be strong, Iva didn’t respond more than just that a simple “you are okay…” that made Garou froze a good second. She started to walk towards him and asked him what he was doing and if those screams were due to him, when he affirmed this she turned a bit serious and committed the mistake of telling him that it was not who he truly was and to hear to his heart for once and to stop being stubborn, when he tried to deny her words she quickly kept discussing and told him that he was committing a mistake and to admit that he had a good heart and was nice under all that criminal and monster façade he tried so hard to maintain and create, he got pissed off and told her that she knew nothing about him, slowly breaking Iva’s heart when he told her they were not even friends, that she thought wrong all that time if she truly believed that they had something meaningful between them, he then got closer to her and lowly told her a little flower like her that didn’t even bloom should mind her business before she gets hurt, she started to tear up in frustration but didn’t gave up, instead she yelled at him to not piss her off and before he interrupted her she told him that it was not about that and never was, that she didn’t care how weak she was because what makes her strong is her constant long for the safety of the ones she cares for and the goal she tries to achieve, she didn’t care and kept yelling that she wouldn’t give up on him, at the sound of that Garou stops a second before deciding that if she acted like that he had no more option than hunt her down, he proceeded to run towards her, Iva got ready for the attack and threw her helmet at him, this confused him but before he realized she kicked him with all her strength, making him slowdown and step back enough for her to throw herself at him and cling onto him, holding her with all her weight as she told him she won’t let him go and that he would have to kill her first because she would never live to see him getting killed like a monster and hated as such because she cared a lot about him, so much it made her feel strong to fight everyone, including him.
Garou tries to get off her clingy attack but in his attempt on holding back to not fully hurt her and just defend himself Iva pulls him down, making herself fall on her back as he kept trying to get her hands out of his wrists, he ended up fight it and punched her in the face, which didn’t stop her at all, she just started to tear up loudly as she told him to please understand what being a monster truly was, her tears made him interlock gazes with him and makes his gaze soft again, but he quickly composes and pushes her hands away finally, hurting her a bit after that and stepping away. He turns his back to her and tells her one final time that his goal is something only he can do and reach and to step back before getting more hurt, after this he disappeared from her sight, making her gasp and leaving her with her arm wounded and teary eyes.
She walked home down after the encounter, though she felt like giving up on him was not the right choice and stubbornly decided to keep looking for a way to make him understand and maybe tell him that she not just cared but also loved her one and only best friend: him.
After her encounter with Garou, she considers giving up on looking for him and makes him listen to her one last time, between her thoughts and her way home her helmet falls from her wounded and shaky hands, this makes her look down at the street floor and kneel to grab it back, she notices that a few meters next to it was a very damaged and dirty poster flyer about a martial art tournament and while reading it she began to remember the mention of multiple tournaments he used to participate in loo for strong opponents to keep growing as a martial artist, she felt her heart aching and began to tear up while holding the flyer in her hands, Iva took it as a sign and kept inside of the helmet so she wouldn’t lose it, she arrived to her apartment and prepared what she was going to bring to the tournament, though her biggest concern was what she was going to tell him if she saw him again, since the first time didn’t go as planned.
Later and putting aside her worries and feelings towards Garou’s situation, Iva takes a train towards C-City, skipping her classes that day to be on the tournament instead all for the sake of finding Garou once more, in the middle of her thoughts, she gets interrupted by a call from her parents and she does her very best to pretend that she was on her way to her university all the call, after she hangs up, she murmurs and tries to look angry at the fact that she is skipping classes and faults Garou for being the reason of it, though she acknowledges that she is just nervous at the possibility of seeing him again and that is her own fault for caring too much and being stubborn about letting go of him, though she doesn’t regret her decision because after all that is her friend.
Later, she arrives at C-City and while waiting to get into the stadium, she hears some girls talking about some monsters appearing on City-S, this concerned Iva, but didn’t stop her from staying in the same place since she was already late to the scene and knew metal bat could handle whatever monster could be, and also, most importantly because she truly had the hope to find Garou in the tournament and with that approach him in a different way that perhaps could work to make him see why she was so concerned and maybe understand him and his true intentions since she refused to believe he was just a greedy fighter in look of strength. The number of people in the Stadium made her feel nervous since she didn’t bring her helmet with her nor headphones to cancel the noise of the people and attack impact of the competitors during each of their fights.
It took long for the tournament to start and for all the people to get into their seats due to how many they were. Iva was in one of the last and poor-sighted seats in the stadium because of how late she bought her ticket, when they announced for the public welcome the contestants she shivered because she thought she would see Garou, she smiled at the participants, some of them knew faces such as lighting Max, Sneck and her old master Hamukichi from the Sunflower Dojo’s Self Defense, she cheered when she saw him since he was one of the few people that helped her out in her anxiety and let her abandon the dojo without judging her decision, though all that happiness disappeared the moment she noticed that none of the participants was Garou, she tried to not let her energy down so she tried to focus on the tournament to not waste the money she spent on the ticket and her classes with the hope that perhaps she may learn something from the contestants.
She vaguely knew Suiryu from TV but seeing him in action made her curious. Some of the comments through the tournament made her frown multiple times because she didn’t get them, such as the comment that was made after Lighting Max and Lin Lin combat that was about people being skeptical on a professional hero capabilities in martial arts, which was for her illogical due to how the third S-Class hero was in fact, a professional martial artist, she ended up deducing it could be because of the order of how he was already a martial artist before being a hero, which made her rethink about how his dojo was taken care of during his time as a hero. This made Iva think about how people truly thought about heroes, probably some kind of idol beings that have a few wins against monsters and how they have low expectations on them in comparison to experienced martial artists.
The tournament kept going and Iva was drowning in surprises, she felt like she knew “Charanko” from somewhere but didn’t think much about it, though for her surprise the participant was unbelievably strong, slapping the other contestant and give him a concussion from the hit, she was so surprised and excited for what she just witness that she grabbed her phone and took a picture of it, revealing that her lockscreen was a picture of her and Garou when they still hung out with each other. Iva looked at her lockscreen and wondered if he would be as surprised as her as well, her thoughts got interrupted by an excited crowd cheering and joyous over the contestant called Suiryu, it picked her interest and she paid once again, attention to the fight that was going on a professional hero and a professional, former martial artist with a big reputation, she stood quiet looking at the start from lighting max but her eyebrows furrowed when she saw that Suiryu finished him in just one kick, this shocked her and made her realize the amount of people that were out there with an unmeasurable power just like Garou was at some degree, he was not a hero and seemed disgusted by the thought of it obviously, but he was strong and before leaving the dojo he was nothing more than another civilian like Suiryu was, she questioned herself nonchalantly about how many people who have been taken care of humanity in the darkness were out there. Perhaps the people who maintained some peace back in the days, just like her friend’s ancestors Vanessa, Iva pout and frown at the thoughts she’s having, trying to focus on the fight at hand, the conclusion of it at least, wishing she could listen to what they say.
Iva’s phone sounds and once more checks it, realizing the multiple reports not just on the city her college was in but also the stupidly big number of monsters that were all over the cities and the need of heroes in the hero association. She hurries to leave the tournament to ask where they needed help, feeling a bit disappointed that she couldn’t cheer her master on since he was the next contestant to fight. She was on her way out when she heard the result of her previous master fight and thought to make him a visit after the situation was over to cheer him up and tell him he did good in attempting to promote the dojo. Since she was far from the entrance she got in she eventually got lost in the stadium, she asked for signals but none of them helped, to the point she had to go to ask to the office where the tournament was organized, she told them she was a hero and that she needed to find the exist, the tried to persuade her to stay in case monsters appeared, she tried to tell them that in that case people outsides would need her as well at least to guide them safely to shelters, they insisted and that’s when they got interrupted by the sound of impacts outside due to the fight between Suiryu and now the one who she knew was Genos’ Master and the one she saw on City A before it disappeared from the map., it was an intense fight that caught her attention before the chaos of the staff started to sound from inside of the stadium, she concerned walked to them and tried to see what it was, but focused on carrying some with help of the others and bring them to the medical staff and see if they could be moved to the hospital. She saw multiple people going through one of the exists that she had trouble finding and sighed, knowing she had to check on them as well. After helping with the staff, she got out of the tournament and called the hero association to see if she could be of help somewhere, they gave her instructions of low rank monsters in the city and told her to not worry because Genos was there, this soothed her a bit but kept her way to the places where the monsters were located and tried to get rid of them and evacuate people to shelters.
After the Monster Raid and Super Fight, Iva decides to go back to the hero Association, trying to ignore the simple injuries he got from the previous events in C-City, though in the middle of her way she received a call from her mother, this scared the shit out of her since she knew she would ask for her and the university since it got destroyed in the centipede attack in S-City, she took a deep breath and answered the phone, the first thing her mother told her was how she was which calmed Iva’s nerves down a bit, she explained her a fake story about how she was already outsides the building when it happened and it was just matter of time for her to go to a shelter, her mother felt relief for her answer and in a laugh she told her how she was glad that she wasn’t playing the hero, this made Iva feel down and nodded before telling her she needed to do something and hang out, with a sigh she kept her way to the hero association, trying to avoid thoughts about her own weakness and how it has been more a bury than a help, her peace got interrupted when her mother sent her a message telling her to seriously stop the hero path she chose because she was not prepared for it and that she should go back home now that her college was destroyed, she ignored that message for her own sake for once as she passed to the hero association. On the hero association she crosses paths with Vanessa who she waves a hello and steals a hug from; she was in her Magical Girl attire or most exactly mode, they have a chat about the previous events and Vanessa tries to comfort Iva about her destroyed college, even though Iva doesn’t really enjoy Law, so stopping her studies for a while didn’t seem too bad, they both end up agreeing that many civilians may need simple help or maybe there were monsters around ready to attack taking advantage of the vulnerable state the civilians and cities are, so they decide to patrol to see if they could be of any help and put the civilians safety as a priority.
The fight started with Iva taking the initiative, not fully aware if her suspicions were right or not, yet somehow knowing that if she didn’t get close enough to attack from the start she would be doomed in a few seconds, she ran towards Vivi and tried to kick her, but with a laugh she grew the branches and roots that hung from her as if they were arms, the kick was stopped and Iva fell but quickly got up to avoid her three next attacks, making her step backwards, this bothered because it would be a game where she would have to dodge for the eternity or until her legs didn’t give more and eventually died from being perforated by one of Vivi roots, Vivi laughed at her and told her what the hell she was doing and if she couldn’t keep up with her all while Iva dodged almost every single of her attacks for the sake of stepping out of that fight alive. Iva was not able to dodge Vivi’s secret attack that was multiple roots to encircle her and then grow branches all over them to stab the opponent, Iva saved herself from climb one of the roots and not stab vital points. Vivi talked and talked how much of a fool Iva was while trying to perforate her once more, telling her how weak she actually was and that she committed a huge mistake by getting her nose into things someone weak as her cannot handle, she mocked her by calling her flower, this turned a fire into Iva’s heart, reminding her of Garou and how he expressed same words, she noticed the intention behind each of them and how different they sounded, Garou’s one not having any real bitterness in them, she yelled at Vivi how she dared to talk so easily when all she did was stay in the same place and wait for her little plants to do all the job, she screamed how much of a weak fool she was but that she didn’t care one bit because she still had to find someone in that ugly and devastating place, this took Vivi’s attention and pissed off told her if she was talking about the ugly kids or the hero hunter, this caught Iva out of guard, making her get hit and pushed against the wall, breaking it a bit and a few bones with it, she whimpered for it as Vivi laughed and told her how the hero hunter was chained for being an stubborn asshole and fight Orochi, telling her how she was part of the torture to try to discipline him, her words broke Iva’s heart and the moment she stood up and ran to Vivi she let herself get stabbed and perforated, she took the root and pulled it with all her strength, making Vivi pull herself along with it and confused receive Iva’s punch in her face, then Iva quickly started to kick her everywhere and multiple times with all her strength, pulling her arms off with tears in her eyes and finally defeat Vivi with a bittersweet feeling in her heart. She left her body there and walked away as she cried and held the arm that was severely injured, she couldn’t stand the idea of Garou getting tortured by monsters, not quite realizing how he was not appreciated in either side he was in, she thought about it and began to cry further as she traveled slowly through the monster association halls.
