Personality

He is a boy who lives by observing. Being deaf, he tends to stare at people intently, searching for expressions or reading their body language, or even—unconsciously—judging the actions of others or situations that in most cases are none of his business or that he shouldn't think about. Staring at things tends to give him away whenever he disapproves of an action, as his gaze says a lot about him and what he is feeling at that moment. It ends up being obvious to others that he is angry or upset, which often surprises those around him. This is because he usually comes across as someone with a gentle, kind, and compassionate character, giving the impression that “nothing can get to him” or that nothing could really affect him enough to make him angry and cause a reaction due to it. However, this is not true; Hikari emotions are strong, and his sense of justice is constantly being provoked by the world surrounding him and the injustice he gets to witness every day in his journey as a teacher.

He is a very, very sensitive boy and his empathy can be a double-edged sword for him, causing him to become frustrated about things he cannot control, such as the individual problems of his siblings and parents to random strangers in the city, or the mere innocence of trusting whoever seems nice enough or has done good things for others at least once. He trusts people quite easily since he has trouble seeing the bad people he knows, this is due to his black and white perspective of the world where if you are not completely bad, then you must be good enough to deserve a chance. He does have that stereotypical young and clueless hero in him, his sensitivity and empathy towards others made him help people in the simplest ways (sometimes he ends up showing at places late out of getting distracted by helping someone on his way).

He is kind, often making people think of him as sunshine or a beautiful flower blooming in the warmth of the spring, his golden heart makes him close to people with problems and others that may not have many without any kind of restrictions, this made his journey as a teacher easy, his simple acts and compassion towards others make people such as her sister see an example in him, often being mistaken as a hero due to his aleatory acts of kindness.

Hikari, as mentioned before can have another face where he is rough and impulsive in interacting with people he considers evil at its fullest, people that don’t deserve the compassion they never felt, there’s nothing that pisses him off more than the selfishness and the cruelty people can have in their hearts, cruelty that is shown outside and is used to hurt others. His impulsivity causes him to get into fights such as the times he defended his friends against the mockery popular people tried to do to them for being “different”.

The “being different” has a huge weight in his heart and it often makes him feel vulnerable against whoever that implies him that, in his childhood, he used to think he was less of a person for being deaf and often being pushed away by other kids when it came to play, which hurt him deeply, since his dream was to belong and help, to be useful for others and heal hearts.
